Pregnancy & Postpartum

Osteopathy and physiotherapy treatment when pregnant and postpartum (after childbirth) is an effective and safe treatment. The purpose of the treatment is to improve the functional level, reduce pain and balance the body, both during pregnancy and after birth.

Pregnancy and childbirth itself cause a lot of strain on the female body. The growing abdomen means increased mechanical load on all structures: joints, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue, especially in lower back and pelvis. This is accompanied by the physiological effects during pregnancy: increased blood volume, changes in lung function and blood pressure, as well as the hormonal changes during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Regardless how your birth was: easy, complicated, short, long, cesarean or vaginal birth, your body has been through a trauma. While many women feel good after 8-12 weeks, full recovering after pregnancy and childbirth can take months or even a year.

Since all the structures of the body affect each other and are dependent on each other’s function, we examine and treat the body as a whole. We treat with osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT), manual techniques, which may include manipulation, mobilization, stretching techniques and muscle energy techniques.

Your treatment plan may also include instruction in home exercises, advise related to physical activities and training, and advise on healthy lifestyle. Our treatments are always individually designed, based on your needs, wishes and physical condition.
