Women’s Health and Osteopathy – Why We Need More Research and Clinical Focus

At Q KLINIK, we have made a clear choice: to offer the most effective osteopathic care for women, babies and children. We are 13 women, all specialising in osteopathy for women and children. We aim to support you with high professionalism, a holistic approach, and genuine care. Osteopathy is not an alternative treatment. It is a recognised healthcare profession focused on thorough clinical examination that leads to a tailored treatment plan. This plan may include manual techniques (specific hands-on methods) and advice based on our deep understanding of the human body, its systems, and its interconnections. We also strongly believe that women’s health deserves far more attention, particularly when it comes to musculoskeletal pain related to pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and menopause. Much clinical research that informs treatment today is based on studies involving men. We can – and should – do better.

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopaths are authorised healthcare professionals who specialise in assessing and treating pain and dysfunction in muscles and joints, from acute conditions to long-standing problems. We take a person-centred approach and always consider the whole person, not just the area where symptoms are felt. We have extensive knowledge in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, neurology, pain science and pathology. This allows us to navigate complex clinical situations and develop an individualised treatment plan, based on a thorough examination and detailed discussion. Treatment may include manual techniques, clinical advice, lifestyle adjustments, and often specific exercises or movement guidance to support the body’s ability to heal and function optimally. It’s not just about easing tension in the moment – it’s about understanding the underlying causes and creating sustainable, long-term improvement.

You Have to Live With the Pain! Or Do You?

Many women experience back, neck, pelvic or hip pain – especially during pregnancy, after childbirth or around menopause. Yet we still lack sufficient research on these specific issues. Often, women are met with dismissal or normalisation: “It’s normal – it will pass.” But for some, it doesn’t – and this can profoundly impact quality of life, day-to-day functioning, and overall wellbeing. At Q KLINIK, we see women every day who suffer from neck, back and pelvic pain, rectus diastasis (abdominal separation), headaches, migraines, scar-related issues after caesarean sections, hip pain, or other complex pain presentations – often postpartum. Many of them have already sought help elsewhere without lasting improvement, or have been told they have to live with the pain, before they find their way to us. We are frequently asked when to book an appointment during or after pregnancy. Our answer is simple: as soon as you feel ready. We would much rather support you early on with just a few sessions than see you later when the pain has become chronic. Many women come to us after years of discomfort – something we call “delayed self-care”, which often happens when you are caring for an unsettled baby or in a demanding phase of life. But at some point – and ideally sooner rather than later – your health and well-being must also be prioritised.

Time Matter

We allow good time for our consultations – usually 45–60 minutes for the first session, and 30–45 minutes for follow-ups, depending on the issue. This gives us time to explore the relevant areas of your body, consider all contributing factors, and have an honest and informative conversation about what you can do yourself, and what we can address together. That time makes a real difference, especially regarding complex or long-standing pain, where simple solutions rarely work.

Why Choose Q KLINIK?

We all have extensive education and many years of experience treating women, babies, and children. Hanna and Didde have nearly 30 years of clinical experience, and every one of our practitioners has been handpicked because they meet the high standards we believe are essential. We are 13 female clinicians with diverse backgrounds in physiotherapy, osteopathy, paediatrics, gynaecology, women’s health, headache disorders, exercise science and lifestyle coaching. Our shared commitment to offering professional excellence and a safe, respectful environment unites us. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. We believe in individualised care and firmly believe that the female body deserves the same attention and research integrity as the male body. Today, many clinical guidelines and protocols are still based on male study participants, which isn’t good enough.
